Academic SupportThe John Flynn College's approach to academic support combines innovative practices with tried and tested means to provide a 'holistic' network of support for learning that helps to cultivate a self-directed and motivated learning environment. Our College continues to encourage and support students who have been identified as having difficulties with their studies, and has also adopted a number of measures to prevent difficulties arising and to encourage students to reach their academic potential. A specific example of these measures includes resident tutors and assistants who are appointed annually by our Vice Principal to establish and maintain an effective relationship with each of the students with whom they live; to identify any problems that may occur, and to liaise with the Vice Principal about such problems when necessary. To this end, the system offered is universal rather than remedial, with support for learning available to all students starting from the early stages of undergraduate study. Specific requirements of disabled students, those with English as a second language, and mature students returning to study are also recognised and given practical attention. It is now a condition of enrolment that all students participate in the academic support program offered by the College. Academic Support ProgramWe have developed our approach on the traditional interventionist model where students who have been identified as having difficulties with their studies are assisted; however the College has also adopted a number of measures to prevent difficulties arising and to encourage our students to reach their academic potential. The John Flynn College has adopted a multi-faceted, pro-active and 'holistic' approach in an attempt to cater for the diverse learning needs of our residents.
